Inquiry Class| Experience Woodblock New Year Prints at CISK
Taohuawu woodblock New Year prints are considered to be one of the finest examples of Suzhou folk art expressions. In 2006, Taohuawu woodblock New Year prints were proclaimed as an entry to the first National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
During the Spring Festival，people like to paste the images of various gods on both sides of the door, expecting them to ward off evil and usher in good luck.
On December 9, the inheritors of the Taohuawu Woodblock New Year Prints came to CISK Kindergarten to give Children a special lesson of woodblock New Year Print.
The children learned the whole process from engraving to printing under the instruction of the inheritors and viewed some representative New Year prints, which deeply attracted them.
The children can't wait to start making their own New Year prints! Teachers brought a classic New Year print, " Circle of Harmony", which children could paint in their favorite colors.
At the end of the lesson, they also experienced the printing of New Year prints by themselves.
They painted the wood with ink, covered it with a piece of paper, and wiped it gently.
Look! A simple and vivid New Year print is finished!
The arts serve as an inspiration for creativity and self-expression, including how they sense the world. This is also central idea of the inquiry theme “How we express ourselves” at kindergarten this month.
In addition to the New Year prints, students also designed their own version of the famous painting The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh.
