Inquiry Class| Pottery:Meet Ancient Civilization At CISK

The Primary Years Program aims to provide interesting, relevant, challenging and important transdisciplinary courses for students aged 3-12 (Pre-school to G5). In the Primary Years Program, students have their own voice, choice, and ownership so as to stimulate the agency (innovation) of learning and be willing to take responsibility for autonomous learning.

陶器Pottery
To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow.
——Kurt Vonnegut
Last week, grade 5 students had their long-awaited pottery class.
This pottery class is based on this month's inquiry theme. The purpose is to explore where we are in place and time, and to understand past civilizations can help present and future society.

Ancient Egypt, ancient India, ancient Greece, Aztec and Inca... Each class chose a different ancient civilization. The students first learned some ancient civilization's character, culture, politics and economic structure, then looked up the data and waited to make their own ancient civilization pottery.

The students carefully kneaded pottery clay and shaped the materials into antique. Vases, cups, plates, pyramids, and lifelike sphinxes are gradually taking shape in their hands.

Now let's enjoy their works!

The teachers hope that this course will not only train the students' practical ability, but also enable them to experience the difficulties of the formation of ancient civilization.
Making hand built pottery is no easy task, even though we live in a modern civilization with mature craft production techniques, beautiful colors, and clay that you can buy anywhere. It is even more difficult for primitive people to make pottery in a challenging environment and sow the seeds of civilization for human beings thousands of years ago.
At CISK, in addition to academic courses, we also provide interesting and challenging inquiry courses for students, and teach students to use their creativity and imagination. And the development of concepts, knowledge and skills is greatly promoted.
